Scottish man runs up £29,000 car hire bill.20 Oct 11
A motorist from Glasgow was handed a car hire bill for £36,000 after his own vehicle was damaged in an accident and sent to the garage for repairs.
Mr Greenlees was provided with a desirable Jaguar XF after his beloved Jaguar Sovereign was accidentally reversed into by a bin lorry. Eager to take delivery of the prestigious new Jaguar, Mr Greenlees quickly signed on the dotted line without first checking the paperwork he was agreeing to.
Unfortunately, he had signed up to pay for the Jaguar at a cost of £350 per day. On returning the car after 103 days to the accident management company that supplied it, Mr Greenlees was then presented with a whopping bill for £36;,000.
The matter has now been taken through the Court of Session in Edinburgh where Mr Greenlees has been awarded a payment of £7,488 from the insurer of the driver that hit his car. Sadly, this leaves Mr Greenlees with a bill of £29,000 still to pay to the accident management company.
At Edinburgh Car Hire we don't work with any accident management companies, only renowned car hire brands. We advise our customers to always pay attention to the documents that they are signing and make sure that they understand the details printed on hire agreements, if you don't you could find yourself in a situation similar to that of Mr Greenlees.
